John Hutchinson of Rockingham has been named, by the Richmond County Board of Commissioners, to the board of trustees at Richmond Community College in Hamlet.

He is a Senior Vice President/Investment Officer with the Hutchinson and Vaughn Investment Consulting Group of Wells Fargo Advisors, L.L.C. in Rockingham.

A graduate of Davidson College, Hutchinson earned his master’s degree in history from the University of Virginia and his juris doctoral degree from Campbell University. He has worked as an investment advisor for 17 years.

“I’m honored to be selected to serve on the board. I have always had a lot of respect for what RCC does for the citizens of our community, for the county, and for the industries located here. It is a three-way partnership that benefits all concerned,” said Hutchinson.

For Hutchinson, there has always been a family connection with the college. His father, Robert, is a founding member of the Richmond Community College Foundation Board of Directors and taught finance classes in the business department. He remembers his mother, Mary Jo, taking painting classes there years ago and going to cultural events at the college throughout his childhood. In the late ’90s, he taught history as an adjunct professor at the college.

“RCC’s flexibility in meeting community needs at any given time make it a real asset. I’m just happy to be involved and look forward to its continued success,” he said.

Hutchinson is married to Sharon Setzer Hutchinson. The couple has two children and is expecting their third child in late spring.

Hutchinson is also a current member of the Rockingham City Council, serving as Mayor Pro Tem.
