Mrs. Carlene Duncan Matherson Mullens 98, of Rockingham, formerly of Whiteville died Monday, February 18, 2013 in Richmond County Hospice Haven, Rockingham. She resided with her daughter, Ellen M. Tedder of Rockingham. She was born July 23, 1914, the daughter of the late Volley C. Duncan, Sr. and Nellie Nobles Duncan. She was the widow of the late Nathan Matherson and the late Ted Mullens.

She is survived by two sons, Charles “Chuck” Matherson and wife, Sandy of Chattanooga, TN, Joe Matherson and wife, Brenda, of Chattanooga, TN; two daughters, Ellen Tedder of Rockingham, Kay Amantea and husband, AI of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Edwin Duncan of Whiteville; DeLane Duncan of Whiteville; three sisters, Mable Capps of Whiteville, Betty Long of Matthews, Nell Smith of Chattanooga, TN; 21 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Ann Matherson of Lawrenceville, GA and Grace Matherson of Augusta, GA.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, two sons, Robert “Bobby” Matherson and Russell Matherson, a daughter, Patsy Hudson, three brothers, Horner Duncan, V.C. Duncan, Jr., Herman Duncan and a sister, Iris Mizelle.

Her funeral service will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Peacock Funeral Horne Chapel by her grandson-in-law, Rev. Travis Wilkerson. Burial will be in Peacock’s Columbus Memorial Park.

Her family will receive friends 1:00 - 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the funeral home prior to her service.

Ellen and family so sorry for the loss of your Mom. You are in my prayers. Very few people get to live to be 98, you were truly blessed!!! Her work on earth is done now she is going home for her heavenly reward!!!
