The Rockingham metalcore band The First To Fall will perform in Greensboro on Saturday before judges for a chance to win a record label, and tickets to the show are selling quickly.
At the Road To The Sphinx Contest — a battle of metal and hardcore bands — The First To Fall will perform along with other bands from the area. All bands will be competing for time slot on Summer Slaughter or All-Stars Tour plus a recording deal from Sumerian Records. Bands will be judged by Sumerian Records A&R. This is round one of three. Round two will be regional and Round three will take place in Hollywood, Calif.
Other bands that will compete against The First To Fall include Patterns, Sacred Apollo, Wait For The Signal, The Alexander Effect, Naomi Wise, My Last Endeavor, Bombs Over Paris, Bridges He Burned and Attracting The Fall.
The First To Fall is made up of five young musicians from Rockingham.
Three-fourths of the tickets have already been sold, according to band manager Kevin Johnson.
“The number of tickets we have available are running out,” said Johnson. “We want people to buy the tickets but we want people to be able to go.”
Johnson said he understands not everyone has a ride, so he is trying to make sure everyone who buys a ticket can get to the show.
“I’m going to call today to try to rent a passenger van,” he said. “Or maybe there is someone who wants to donate one for the trip?”
Johnson said the band members are hyped to get the chance to compete against other bands for a record label.
“It will be a great event regardless with so many other bands playing,” said Johnson. “It will be a great time.”
The band, whose following grows each week, has seen a jump in scheduling since a recent show in Fayetteville.
“After we went to Fayetteville, the booking has exploded on the Fayetteville scene,” said Johnson.
