A local clinic, which received a helping hand from the Pee Dee Electric Company, will be able to once again serve the dental needs of residents beginning Feb. 4.
The Compassionate Care Clinic in Rockingham received a $5,000 grant from the Pee Dee Electric Company after its dental equipment was destroyed by water.
In September 2012, a busted air conditioning unit leaked water down the walls, onto the floor and onto dental equipment, said Cherika Dumas, office manager.
The clinic is funded through donations and grants and gives medical attention and dental treatment — free of charge — to patients who are uninsured, Dumas said.
Linda McPhatter, office recruiter, said that getting the replacement dental equipment was “…. very important to us and we really appreciate the grant.”
The dental clinic has been closed since October 2012 and is just now opening again with new dental equipment, Dumas said.
McPhatter said that the new equipment helped the clinic get back on track and begin helping people again.
Dumas said she is ecstatic about the grant and being able to help people with dental issues.
“It’s a bad feeling when someone wants and needs dental help and we can’t give it to them,” she said.
The clinic is located on 1009 E. Washington St. in Rockingham. The clinic is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The office is open Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. but it does not treat patients on Tuesday and Thursday.
