The Rockingham Police Department’s Vice/Narcotics Unit received information on Jan. 15 that Donald Moore Edwards III, 27, of Rockingham, was allegedly planning on and had the resources to make a quantity of methamphetamine, according to the police department.

Officers said what made the matter more pressing is the confidential informant that knew Edwards said he was staying at the Royal Plaza Motel and the informant wanted to make sure there weren’t any children there in case something were to happen. Upon their entry into the room were Edwards was staying, investigators said it became clear to the Vice/Narcotics Unit he did in fact have the means to produce meth and he also appeared to be on the substance. After officers spoke with Edwards, he confirmed as much, police said.

Although there were only several precursors used to make the meth present, there were other signs of narcotic abuse, according to police. Officers said Edwards was charged with possession with the intent to sell/deliver a schedule II substance and placed in the Richmond County Jail under a $2,500 bond.
