The FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst is offering a comprehensive residential weight-loss retreat targeted to help individuals develop the tools needed to manage their weight for a lifetime.
The retreat will offer an individualized approach to weight loss that will allow the participants to discover their potential for greater health and vitality, learn practical habits for weight management and chart a permanent course for optimal living.
“We are excited about the opportunity to offer a program that is this comprehensive in our community,” said Kari Garbark, program manager at FirstHealth Center for Health & Fitness-Pinehurst.
“With the addition of the Clara McLean House, we have the perfect setting to host the retreat, as well the necessary tools and medical fitness experts in place,” Garbark said.
Participants will take part in a retreat for two weeks that includes exercise, interactive classes, workshops and group discussions.
They will receive individual attention from the staff as well as support from other participants.
Garbark said, “Our program is designed to help participants take control of their own health.”
“It is geared toward individuals who have battled with weight issues and are ready to start living a healthier life. This program will have a positive impact on participants in many aspects,” she said.
A key component, Garbark said, is the atmosphere.
“When individuals commit to a residential program like this,” she said, “they remove themselves from old surroundings and habits, offering a unique opportunity for undistracted self-reflection as they experience and practice new healthy behaviors and truly focus on transforming their lifestyles.”
A team of medical fitness professionals guides participants through an immersion-style, structured program devoted to mastering essential skills in nutrition, physical activity and behavioral change. Discovery, exploration and coached practicing of these skills is intended to help participants bridge the gap between what they know about living healthy and what they actually do. They will learn to deal more successfully with out-of-control eating, motivational setbacks, frustration and relapse.
According to Garbark, this is what makes this weight-loss retreat different from others.
“We truly have one of the most comprehensive programs in the country,” Garbark said. “From education, activity and spa experiences, the Residential Weight-Loss Retreat Program at FirstHealth offers complete services for those looking for a refreshing and positive new start to their lives,” she said.
According to the residential weight loss website, anyone who is 18 years-old and older can join the program. There is no weight restriction, but the participant must be independently mobile and able to walk 1/4 of a mile.
