God control, not gun control

Dear Editor,

As expected, many in our country are crying out for gun control after the school massacre that took place in Newtown, Conn. However, the problem is not the availability of guns. The problem is with the depravity of the human heart. If a person has allowed the spirit of murder to overpower them, knives, explosives, poison or some other means will be found to kill.

Actually, every school in America needs a security officer. We used to have one until the early 1960’s. His name is God. He was on duty with prayer, Bible reading, and the Ten Commandments. He was on duty in the lives of Christians and Christian churches being the salt and light of society. This helped save people from being enslaved to their own sinful nature or, at least, reproved them to the point that they could restrain themselves from openly committing such outrageous, ungodly acts.

Now that we have banned the Lord from being proclaimed the one who established this country with our God-given rights and (banned from) acknowledging (as did our founding fathers) that this free Republic cannot endure without religion (meaning Christianity) and mortality, we are suffering the consequences.

The United States is being destroyed morally, financially, physically, educationally, and militarily. We need God control, not gun control.

You know, there is a very touchy subject that needs to be addressed, and that is the issue of too much Religion being introduced into our posts, we want to argue and dissagree about political issues but we are continually being interrupted with issues like what is Gods real name? Please Religous scholars, help us decide what we need to focus on to survive what is happening in our lives other than "What is Gods real name", we respect you all but we need your guideance, not a never ending argument about issues that we don`t understand, it seems that you are trying to prove that you know more about Religion than your counter-part, give us a break and offer some answers about what is concerning us about our Government and the direction that we are heading.

with the deepest respect and admiration

When I attended schools and also when my children attended chapel and Bible reading conducted at least once a week held. Shootings were unheard of. The worst thing that happened was a fight once in a while which was quickly brought under control. It is a fact that allowing God to be a part of the schools is essential. History proves it.

telltales! Please keep up, i'm gonna try and educate you here for a minute. Recheck your facts on the UK and gun crimes, you will not get it from MSNBC, CNN or FOX news! Do you know how many school age children in Chicago were shot last year? 446. Do you know how many of those died? 62! Have you seen their gun control laws? Yep, that's right some of the toughest in the nation.

Now lets move to the shooting in Portland, Oregon. Do you know what stopped the shooter from killing more? I know you don't know this answer, cause MSNBC, CNN or FOX news hasn't said one word about it. A person with a concealed carry permit and a weapon. The shooter saw the one person who could stop him and immediately turned the gun on himself.

Moving along, in the past two weeks there were 2 different burglaries. One a 14 year old was home alone and knew where his dads gun was, the burglar was shot. The other story was another 14 year old home alone with no way to defend himself, guess what happened? Dad came home and found his son dead! You will not find these stories sitting at home watching CNN, FOX, or MSNBC!

One more thing, read the Supreme Court ruling from June 2005. In their ruling the supremes ruled that the police have no duty to defend!!!! Their duty is to investigate and make an arrest. So tell me telltales, who is gonna defend my family, are you gonna do it? I didn't think so!

Kevin1, You don't have to glance at me I know you are lying. There are fifty-eight (58) murders in the United Kingdom vs. eight thousand seven hundred seventy-five (8,775) in the Unitedn States of America. The annual rate of firearm homicides is 2.5 per 100,000 vs, 0.03 in the UK.

If you would just not watch FAUX news and listening to the NRA you would know the truth, not a "fair and balanced account."

Gun control is not the way to fix this, stop with the knee jerk reactions. In the UK, gun crime has went up 35% even though they have some of the toughest laws in place. If you want to fix the problem go after the criminals. You liberals love government to solve all problems!

Mr. Shutt, The lack of religion being taught in public schools is hardly the reason for these mass killings. If so how do you explain the murders at U-Texas Austin by Charles Whitman, who killed his mother and wife before killing 16 others and wounding 31 on August 1, 1966.

The murder of President John Kennedy in Dallas,TX., the home weapons lovers, on Nov. 22, 1963. Martin Luther king murdered on April 4, 1968. What most of these murders have in common is a killers mind with an easy access to GUNS.

There are too many murders in the 1950s and 1960s to list them all. And lest we forget, this killer at Newtown,Conn. was home-schooled.

telltales, It's true that Adam Lanza was home schooled in his final two years of high school because of a disagreement between his mother and the school district. He attended public school though until his 10 grade year. Any damage that could have been done was already done, though he had even broader and deep seeded issues.

His actions change nothing, nor does the ease of access to firearms. The right to own firearms and use them in defense of yourself, your family or your country cannot be infringed upon by the government. This right has been given by God and enumerated by the founding fathers in the United States Constitution.

.005% of the population have died as a result of firearms in 2011. This includes justifiable use of force by police and self defense by citizens. 60% of the .005% homicides are directly related to gang activities in urban areas and were committed by criminals with stolen guns.

The cities with the highest crime rates in this country are the cities with the most strict gun regulations, which are unconstitutional to their core. Ex. Chicago Illinois, Washington D.C.

The cities with the lowest crime rates in this country are the cities with the least gun restrictions, some even encouraging all heads of households to own at least one firearm. Ex. Kennesaw Georgia, Scottsdale, Arizona

Any gun control is aimed at the armed citizen as criminals have no regard for laws or restrictions. If this wasn't the case the prison system wouldn't be so over populated as it is. There is no justification for the elimination of a guaranteed right in this nation because of the actions of less that .1% of the population.

In recent history, Another thing that these criminals have in common are a history of mental health issues and the use of prescription drugs of which include symptoms such as suicidal thoughts, paranoia, hallucinations, bouts of violence and detachment from reality.

Charles Whitman, which is one of your examples, wrote the following suicide note before committing the crimes that he did:

"I do not quite understand what it is that compels me to type this letter. Perhaps it is to leave some vague reason for the actions I have recently performed. I do not really understand myself these days. I am supposed to be an average reasonable and intelligent young man. However, lately (I cannot recall when it started) I have been a victim of many unusual and irrational thoughts. I talked with a Doctor once for about two hours and tried to convey to him my fears that I felt come (sic) overwhelming violent impulses. After one visit, I never saw the Doctor again, and since then have been fighting my mental turmoil alone, and seemingly to no avail."

Looks like he had mental issues as well. The other two examples you gave were political targets that were assassinated by gunmen because of their views or actions.

Another area that you missed. The worst school massacre in history was in 1927 located in Bath Township, Michigan. 38 school children were killed as well as 6 adults. Another 58 people were injured. Andrew Kehoe bombed this school. There was no need for firearms for this man to commit these evils.

In 1995 Timothy McVeigh killed 149 adults and 19 children and wounded more than 680 others. This happen in the Ok. Bombing. Once again, There was no need for firearms for this man to commit these evils.

The evil mind will always devise a way to destroy innocent lives if that evil mind is set on destruction.

In the case of guns, The only person that stop a bad guy with a gun is a good with a gun.

When seconds matter, law enforcement is only minutes away. And that isn't their fault. They're over worked, stressed and have limited numbers to try and secure a large area.

Besides, The supreme court ruled that law enforcement is not required to protect you, that essentially you are responsible for your own protection, though they do do their best to protect people when they can.

The federal government really has no business in education. That's the first mistake we allowed them to make. It's clearly an overstep of their Constitutional authority per the 10th amendment of the Constitution.
