Dear Editor,
I would like to tell everyone how easy it is to walk into our schools after what happened in Newtown.
I am a grandfather with two children in this school system. I have had to pick them up in the past. I had to go to the Hamlet 7th and 8th grade building once to pick up one and I just walked in the front door without anyone asking who I was. I walked in the 9th grade academy and could have went anywhere I wanted.
I was raised in this county and I love it very much, but I also know what happened in Newtown could happen here very quickly.
Almost everyone I know owns at least one gun of some kind. This county has a lot of hunters and some, if not most, own some kind of semi-automatic weapon.
I was very touched by what happened in Newtown and I do not want us to have anything like that happen in this county or anywhere else.
Concerned grandparent,
Craig Stroud
