It doesn’t pay to run from police.

Police were investigating suspicious activity in the city and discovered two teenagers in the area in question.

For unknown reasons, they ran from police when officers arrived on the scene. They were caught.

Dustin Coons, 17, Sweetbriar Lane, Rockingham, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of resisting a public officer. Bond was set at $500.

Justin Lance Butler, 16, Hunt Street, Rockingham, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of resisting, obstructing and delaying an arrest. Bond was set at $500.

It is against the law to not follow a lawful order given by a police officer. Questioning of an order is done in court, not at the scene of an incident.

Police have a right to search anyone suspected of a crime, or violation of any law, if they feel it is necessary for their own safety and that of others at the scene.

Resisting or interfering with these procedures is against state law.
