Richmond County Hospice, Inc. has announced the completion of its Hospice Haven, located at 1119 U.S. Highway 1 in Rockingham, and will be holding an open house on Nov. 13 for interested community members to attend.

Formerly a six bed residential facility, the Hospice Haven has been repurposed and renovated into a six bed inpatient center. This renovation allows Richmond County Hospice to increase its care and better meet the pain and symptom management needs of its patients in Richmond, Anson, Scotland and Montgomery counties.

“We want people to understand that this is their hospice,” said Executive Director Mary Ellen Shea. “That’s why we’ve brought the history of Richmond County into the Haven … We’re so proud that we’ve been able to keep that homelike quality.”

While Richmond County Hospice provides most of its care wherever patients call home, it is expected that many will utilize the Hospice Haven inpatient center at some point during their care.

Alongside the facility’s private rooms graced with home-like amenities, Richmond County Hospice has added a solarium which creates a thoughtful integration into its surrounding natural environment and will overlook a Walking Path and Memory Gardens currently in the process of design.

“We’re going to have the hospice staff available through those hours,” Shea said. “Community members can come in and see the rooms … The new beds will be here, and (visitors) are going to be able to go outside of each room and see a rose garden. It’s just gorgeous.”

While awaiting state licensure and CHAP (Community Health Accreditation Program) credentialing to accept patients, Richmond County Hospice, Inc. has invited the community to visit and experience the new Hospice Haven inpatient center on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
