Kidnapping and assault lead to arrest by Sheriff’s Office

An Ellerbe man faces multiple criminal charges after an alleged kidnapping and assault recently, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Maness, 36, of 560 Concord Church Road, Ellerbe, was arrested Friday, Nov. 2, on charges of possessing a firearm by a felon, felony possession of stolen goods, possession of a schedule I substance-methamphetamines, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, domestic strangulation, communicating threats, assault inflicting serious injury, first and second degree kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and two counts of assault by pointing a gun, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Maness was placed in the Richmond County Jail, said lawmen. Information about bond was not available. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the names of the two victims in this case.

In an unrelated case, Crystal Durden, 36, of 123 Plantess Ridge Court, Marion, S.C., was arrested on the charge of first degree attempted murder for the shooting of Timothy Allen Durden, 44, of 299 Wildwood Ave., Hamlet, on Saturday, Nov. 3, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

In other recent arrests:

• Travis Nelson, 27, of Aginora Lane, Rockingham, was arrested for allegedly selling/delivering cocaine, trafficking cocaine and possession with the intent to sell and distribute on Oct. 17, the Sheriff’s Office said. Nelson was placed in Richmond County Jail under a $100,000 secure bond.

• William Gary Branch II, 42, of U.S. Hwy 1 South, Rockingham, was arrested for possession with the intent to sell/deliver marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, on Oct. 18, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Branch was released on his own recognizance to appear in court.

• Randolph Benjamin Dean, 41, of Franklin Haigler Road, Rockingham, was arrested on two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses on Oct. 21, according to lawmen. He was placed in Richmond County Jail under a $3,000 secure bond.

The Daily Journal lists them all as arrests. People charged are presumed innocent until determined to be guilty by a court of law.
