RICHMOND, Va. — Lois Billingsley Raines, 84, died Wednesday March 11, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She had lived at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Richmond for the past several years, but was a longtime resident of Rappahannock Academy in Caroline County. She was the widow of L. Hiter Raines and a member of Memorial Baptist Church. She had a 20 year career with the US Postal Service and had retired as Postmaster of the Corbin Post Office. She was also a past recipient of the “Postmaster of the Year” award for the Richmond region. Survivors include three sons: James L. Raines of Richmond, John M. Raines and his wife Anita of Richmond, Jeffrey S. Raines and his wife Joyce of Middletown MD; a sister, Page Billingsley of Raleigh NC; two brothers, Everett Billingsley of Chapel Hill NC and Roy Billingsley of Ashland and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Griffin and a brother, James Marcus Billingsley Jr. A funeral service will be held Saturday March 14th at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, Port Royal or Port Royal Vol. Fire and Rescue.
