Some area residents attended a celebration of Black History Month on Feb. 19 at the Hamlet Senior Center. The theme of the celebration was the quest for Black citizenship in America. One change discussed at the event was the election of the first African-American President Barack Obama. The importance of participation was stressed, as it takes more than one person to affect change.
