U.S. Rep. Larry Kissell (NC-08) joined Rockingham Mayor Gene McLaurin and members of the John H. Wellons Foundation and Magnolia Housing for the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the Magnolia Senior Living Apartments in Rockingham on Monday.

The John H. Wellons Foundation worked with the Department of Housing and Urban Development to get the building project approved and started. The apartments are available for those who are 62 and older.

“After a lifetime of hard work, our seniors more than deserve access to affordable housing,” said Kissell. “Opportunities like this project at Magnolia Apartments are instrumental in creating a safe community for seniors. We must always honor our seniors by protecting the programs they rely on and do everything we can to take care of them in their later years. I was blessed to be a part of the opening of Magnolia Apartments, a center that will do so much for our friends in the area.”

Don G. Wellons, son of John H. Wellons and current President of Magnolia Housing, Inc., discussed the event and thanked Kissell for being there.

“The open house at Magnolia Apartments was a huge success,” said Wellons. “It was a pleasure that Congressman Larry Kissell could attend this event and speak on our behalf. We are proud to be an asset to the Rockingham community and provide affordable housing for seniors.”

Apartments are still available at the new complex.
