Deputies are seeking a suspect who ran from an arrest scene early Saturday morning on Maner Road, Rockingham.
Bryant Lamont Bell, 26, Leak Street, Rockingham, was arrested on charges of assault on a government official, resisting arrest, driving while impaired, driving while license revoked and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
His bond was set at $10,000. During the arrest a .25-caliber handgun valued at $150 was seized.
Glidewell said Bell was stopped in the vehicle he was driving after turning around in the roadway before reaching a license checking station.
Gildewell said when the deputy was placing Bell in his patrol car, Bell became combative and used foul language and attempted to make a phone call.
At the same time, Glidewell said a male passenger in the vehicle ran into the woods nearby and a woman got out of the car.
Gildewell said Bell began striking the deputy with his hands and arms until the deputy gained control by stunning Bell in the abdomen with his X-26 taser, and other deputies began arriving.
The woman, Shakima Simmons, was arrested on a charge of aiding and abetting Bell driving while impaired and driving while license revoked. She was the owner of the vehicle.
The man who ran into the woods is a suspect wanted for several outstanding warrants, Glidewell said. When apprehended, he said the suspect will also be arrested on a charge of resisting arrest by fleeing on foot after being ordered back into the car.
