A building on South Caroline Street will be considered for the designation of public nuisance at Rockingham City Council’s March meeting tonight.

The abandoned residence belongs to the estate of Sarah O. Bailey and will be scheduled for demolition within 15 days of being declared a public nuisance unless the owner addresses the situation.

The council will also consider the appointment of two representatives to the GoldenLEAF Foundation Community Assistance Initiative Steering Committee.

The steering committee will be charged with determining what grant proposals will be submitted for funding by a $2 million GoldenLEAF grant bound for Richmond County.

There will also be two representatives from each of the other municipalities in the county and the Richmond County Board of Education, four from the county commissioners and one representative appointed by the Richmond Community College Board of Trustees on the steering committee.

City Manager Monty Crump is scheduled to update several items of interest to the council during the manager’s report.

Crump is scheduled to update the council on bidding process for the wastewater treatment plant expansion project. The project was originally scheduled to be opened for bidding on March 5, but will now be open for bidding at 2 p.m. on March 26.

Also scheduled for discussion the city manager’s report is the removal of the Laurel Hill dam and preliminary work on the city’s budget for the 2009-10 fiscal year.
