Richmond Community College will be represented on the steering committee to determine what grants be proposed to GoldenLEAF for a $2 million grant, after all, RCC Public Information Officer Anne Morris confirmed.

She said RCC did gain a representative vote on the steering committee, and its board of trustees voted college President Dr. Sharon Morrissey to fill that post at its Tuesday night meeting.

GoldenLEAF Foundation Vice President of Programs and Community Outreach Pat Cabe represented the foundation at the series of public forums held at RCC over the course of the past several months.

She said after voting was closed on the makeup of the steering committee, there was further discussion and the vote was amended to include a representative from RCC.

“We actually ended up with four from the county commissioners, two each from the municipalities of Rockingham, Hamlet, Ellerbe, Dobbins Heights, Norman and Hoffman, two from the school board and one representative to be appointed by the Richmond Community College Board of Trustees,” Cabe said. “That was the result of further discussions, and that was the consensus we reached before we adjourned.”

The final body will comprised of 19 members, and will begin reviewing proposals once the GoldenLEAF Foundation has received them.

In order to qualify for a grant from the foundation, an organization must be a governmental entity or a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

The deadline to submit proposals to GoldenLEAF is 5 p.m. March 23.

They may be submitted either by mail to GoldenLEAF Foundation offices at 301 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, N.C. 27804, by fax at (252) 442-7404 or by email at pcabe@goldenleaf.org or cmills@goldenleaf.org.
