Richmond County Animal Cruelty Investigator Mark Pankey and Richmond County Animal Shelter Manager Elizabeth Griffis are pictured with two dogs that were recently abandoned. The Dobermas, Zen and Zena, were left at a home on Roberdel Road. Animal Cruelty Investigator Mark Pankey said the neighbors reported the animals being there with no food and water. “It’s become common, the way the economy is, that people abandon their animals because they can’t afford to feed them and take them to the vet. People can help me out by being good Samaritans and reporting abandoned animals to the shelter,” Pankey said. He said investigation into the circumstances of the abandonment of the Dobermans is still pending.
