Local Republicans have an opportunity to contribute to their party’s national impact on Tuesday.

The Richmond County Republican Party will hold precinct meetings, followed by their annual convention, at 6 p.m. in the large courtroom of the Richmond County Courthouse.

“In the political process that we have in this country we have two major political parties,” Lee Butler, party Executive Board Second Vice Chair, said. “For a Democracy to work properly we need to follow through on basic operations of system.”

The party encourages all registered Republicans to attend to assign delegates and alternates for the district and state conventions. Republican and Independent candidates running for office this year or next are invited to participate.

According to Butler, party executive board officers will also be elected.

“We have voters get together once every year to meet, discuss issues of the day, and decide what they are going to take apart and deal with. This is about the local level impact on individuals in every day America,” he said. “People think the political process is above them and outside the realm of their daily lives, but it starts at the bottom. That’s where the power of the people begins.”
