Highway Patrol reports five people injured

Five people were injured in three recent motor vehicle accidents in Richmond County, the N.C. Highway Patrol said.

At 2:42 p.m. Feb. 15 on U.S. 220 North, Rockingham, two people were injured while riding on a motorcycle, the patrol said.

Saul Palomares Trejo, 35, Short Street, was taken to Sandhills Regional Medical Center for treatment. Josue Garcia Guzman, 12, also of Short Street, was taken to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Trejo was cited for driving while impaired, hit and run, careless and reckless driving and child abuse.

The patrol said the motorcycle operated by Trejo was traveling an estimated 100 mph when he lost control, ran off the roadway, struck a guardrail, overturned and ejected driver and passenger. The patrol said Trejo left the scene leaving Guzman behind.

The Suzuki motorcycle Trejo was operating received $5,000 damage.

At 2:56 p.m. Feb. 18 on Yates Hill Road, Rockingham, Ashley Kimbre Brigman, 20, Yates Hill Road, was injured when her vehicle left the roadway and overturned, the patrol said.

She was taken to FHRMH for treatment.

Her car went off the roadway to the right on a curve, overcorrected, went off the roadway to the left, struck an embankment and overturned, the patrol said.

Brigman was cited for exceeding a safe speed and failure to maintain lane control.

Her 2001 Chevrolet received $1,300 damage.

At 7:46 a.m. Feb. 20 on Wiregrass Road at Washington Street Extension, two people were injured in a collision.

Fred McDonald, 59; and Fred Levon McDonald Jr., 22, both of Northside Drive, Rockingham, were taken to FHRMH for treatment.

The patrol said McDonald was traveling south on Wiregrass Road when a truck driven by Allen Michael Cox, Jefferson Street, Hamlet, collided with him at the intersection of Washington Street Extension.

Cox was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

The 1989 Chevrolet he was driving received $2,500 damage; McDonald’s 1984 Datsun, $1,000.
