Dr. Yolanda Michelle Griffin and Mark Anthony Hyde, both of Hamlet, were united in marriage at Ashley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Rockingham on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. Reverend Mary Lindsey officiated the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Leonard and Dorothy Hawkins, of Rockingham, and the late Thomas Ray Ratliff, Sr., also of Rockingham. Yolanda is employed as an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and part-time as a Patient Placement Coordinator at FirstHealth of the Carolinas-Moore Regional Hospital.
The groom is the son of Clifford Hyde, of Baltimore, MD, and Margaret Hyde, of Rockingham. Mark is employed at Wade Manufacturing.
The bride was escorted to the altar by her brother, Leonard Hawkins, Jr., of Charlotte. She wore a sophisticated strapless sweetheart neckline taffeta A-line Couture d’Amour gown with a detachable cathedral train. The gown with a lace-up back had a pleated bust adorned with metallic embroidery and embellished with crystals, beads, and sequins. The bodice, skirt and cathedral train were also adorned with metallic embroidery and embellished with crystals, beads, and sequins. After the ceremony, the bride changed into formed flattering charmeuse mermaid gown with a sweep train for the reception. The bodice was adorned with crystals and the bottom was covered with designer hand rolled rosettes. She wore an elegant sheer cathedral length veil edged with embroidered rosette designs highlighted by a gorgeous bridal wrapped rhinestone headband. She carried a bouquet that was a mixture of dark blue hydrangeas and white roses with miniature calla lilies adorned with diamond embellishments and hand wrapped with a white ribbon.
Tishe Thomas, sister of the groom, of Charlotte, was the Matron of Honor. She wore an ocean strapless taffeta floor length gown accented with jeweled bodice rhinestones, beads, and sequin.
Brittany Wall and Morgan Wall, daughters of the bride, of Greensboro, served as Maids of Honor. They each wore an elegant silver strapless floor length charmeuse A-line gown with a side wrap bodice adorned with pearls, rhinestones, beads, and sequins leading to a front cascade.
Bridesmaids included Nikole Baker-Akande of Lilburn, GA; Tehrin Griffin of Charlotte; Carole Griffin of Rockingham and Yashica Diggs of Rockingham, cousins of the bride, and Samantha Turner or Rockingham, cousin of the groom. They each wore ocean strapless floor length charmeuse A-line gowns identical to the Maids of Honor. They each carried a single white rose mixed with greenery and baby’s breath and tied with a white ribbon.
Makiyah Patterson of Charlotte, cousin of the bride, served as the Miniature Bride. She wore a white on white floor length satin gown with a floral belt and gathered skirt. She wore a veil and crystal tiara. She carried a bouquet that was a miniature version of the bride’s bouquet. Alana Caldwell of Columbia, SC and Jordin Harrington, cousins of the groom, were flower girls. They wore a sleeveless white on white ankle length organza gown. They carried a white satin basket and scattered rose petals.
Ali Hyde of Charlotte, brother of the groom, was best man. Timothy Hyde, brother of the groom, of San Antonio, TX; Clifford Hyde of Baltimore, MD, father of the groom; Greg Thomas of Charlotte, brother-in-law of groom, Gary McLendon of Rockingham, uncle of the groom and Kevin Daniels, friend of the groom, of South Plainfield, NJ, were groomsmen. Serving as ushers were RaShawn McLendon, of Greensboro, Tah’jae Reid and Orlanda McCandies of Charlotte, cousins of the groom.
Caleb Thomas, nephew of the groom, of Charlotte, served as the Miniature Groom. Gavin Caldwell of Columbia, SC, cousin of the groom, served as the ring bearer.
Music for the ceremony was provided by pianist/soloist Cassie Garner of Ramseur, and Martika Rush of Durham, friends of the couple. Presiding at the guest register was Jameeshia Hawkins, niece of the bride, of Matthews.
Directresses for the wedding were Jean Byrd and Maxine Kindell, both of Rockingham. The wedding coordinator for the day was Sharon Anderson of Gastonia.
Following the ceremony, a dinner and dance reception was held at the Hamlet American Legion Post 49. After a honeymoon in Savannah, GA, the couple resides in Hamlet.
