RAEFORD — Richmond Senior’s Brandon Gibson finished fifth in the boys open race with a time of 18:52, while Morgan Tedder took 14th in a time of 24:47 in the girls contest at the Patriot Derby Classic Saturday at the Carolina Horse Park.
Maurice Oneil came in 52nd for the boys in a time of 20:50. Cassie Smith was 64th in the girls race, clocking in at 28:41.
Members of the Richmond cross country team ran as individuals in the open division and did not post a team score. Southeastern Conference member Pinecrest captured both the boys and girls team titles in the championship division.
“It was a pretty good day,” Richmond coach Reggie Miller said. “It is the same course they are going to use for the conference and regional races.”
Richmond rolls past Purnell Swett
PEMBROKE — Juan Onesto and Jalen Almond each scored two goals to lead Richmond Senior to an 8-1 Southeastern Conference soccer victory over Purnell Swett Monday night.
Brandon Ingram, Cole Latta, Levi Sandidge and Sergio Zapata had one tally apiece for the Raiders (7-0-2, 1-0-1).
“We came out in the second half with much more intensity,” Richmond coach Bennie Howard said after his team led 2-1 at halftime. “We were able to play everyone and all four of our goalies got to play.”
Richmond will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when it travels to Lumberton.
Hamlet sweeps Ellerbe
HAMLET — The Hamlet Middle School volleyball team defeated Ellerbe 25-19, 25-22 in Game 1 and 25-22, 21-25, 15-6 in Game 2 Monday afternoon.
Altman Griffin had 23 service points and five aces in the win. Lauren Brower recorded 12 service points and four aces, while Tatyana Gould contributed 10 service points and three aces.
