Mrs. Mary Henry Shelley, 83, of Hamlet died Friday, September 14, 2012, at her home. She was born August 22, 1929 in Jackson County, a daughter of the late Joseph Fred Henry and Mary Geisler Henry.

Mrs. Shelley was valedictorian and graduate of Sylva Webster High School and valedictorian and graduate of Western Carolina University. She was retired from the Richmond County School System, having taught math and science for thirty-six years.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 19th in the chapel of Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet with Rev. Rick Whittier officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park.

Surviving are her sons, Hal Shelley and wife Claudia of Rockingham and Joe Shelley and wife Lisa of Mint Hill; four grandchildren, Logan Shelley, Kyra Shelley, Annaliese Shelley, and Gracynn Shelley; and an aunt, Elsie Massey of Sylva. Mrs. Shelley was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lewis “Hank” Shelley in 1980.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
