Geneva Nicholson Strong, 81, of 108 McArthur Street, Hamlet, NC died on Saturday morning, September 8, 2012 in her home. She was born July 23, 1931 in Rockingham, North Carolina to the late Madie Nicholson and Willie Hamilton.
Mrs. Strong was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. In 1956, she married Marvin D. Strong of Hamlet, NC. From this union four children were born. Mrs. Strong was an elementary school teacher and retired from the Richmond County School System after teaching for 33 years. Before her health began to fail, she was an active member of her church, Aaron Temple United Methodist Church in Bennettsville, SC and served in many auxiliaries throughout the years. She was also member of the following organizations: National Association of University Women (NAUW), Tri-City Retired Teachers Organization, Richmond County Retired School Personnel and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Renee’ Strong and three sisters: Cornelia Mason, Elizabeth Joyce Davis, and Elsie Nicholson. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Strong of the home, his son Carl Brutus Dawkins, and their three children; Andre’ Strong of Hamlet, NC; Patrick Strong (Jacqueline) of Raleigh, NC; and Angela Strong of Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren; Brandi Magee of Los Angeles, CA; Corey Magee of Charlotte, NC; and Kameron and Kennedy Strong of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by her sister, Delois Nicholson of Rockingham, NC and brother John Wall, of Hamlet, NC, three brother-in-laws, seven sister-in-laws, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00p on Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Waymon Chapel Faith Center, 1923 Osborne Road Hamlet, N.C., with Rev. Eddie Thomas eulogizing and Pastor Shawn Weeks officiating. Interment follows at Aaron Temple United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 7:00p – 8:00pm on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Nelson Funeral Home in Rockingham, NC. Public viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Thursday.
