ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior-Anson boys soccer match scheduled for Wednesday was canceled because the Bearcats were unable to field a full team.
The Raiders are scheduled to travel to Wadesboro at 6 p.m. Monday. Richmond coach Bennie Howard said “he is moving on and expecting to play” the contest.
Richmond is 6-0-1 on the season and following its game with Anson will open Southeastern Conference play against Hoke County 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The game is slated for the Ninth Grade Academy.
Purnell Swett rolls past Richmond in tennis
PEMBROKE — The Purnell Swett girls tennis team captured four singles matches and swept the doubles to claim a 7-2 victory over Richmond Senior Tuesday afternoon.
The lone winners for the Raiders were Haleigh Denham at No. 4 singles and Summer Jacobs at No. 5. Denham defeated Falon Strickland 6-4, 6-0, while Summer Jacobs knocked off Jordan Jacobs 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.
In the other singles matches, Purnell Swett’s Kali Strickland downed Caroline Kirkland 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 match. Larissa Lowry breezed past Katy Shelley 6-3, 6-2, while Kailey Godwin stopped Abbi Carpenter 6-1, 6-0. Joyce Cummings beat Peyton Hunt 4-6, 2-6.
In doubles, Kali Strickland and Lowry knocked off Kirkland and Shelley 8-1. Falon Strickland and Godwin slipped past Carpenter and Denham 9-8 (7-0). Jordan Jacobs and Cummings defeated Summer Jacobs and Hunt 8-2.
“We have to play better than that if we want to win Thursday,” Richmond coach Paula York said. “We have to play with more enthusiasm.”
Richmond (1-2, 1-1) will travel to face Lumberton today at 4 p.m.
