Rockingham Mayor Gene McLaurin, Democratic nominee for North Carolina Senate District 25 including Scotland, Richmond, Anson, Stanly and part of Rowan County, has been endorsed by the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the State Employees Association of North Carolina.
The announcements were made recently by the two statewide organizations.
Lew Ebert, president of the North Carolina Chamber, said McLaurin was supportive “of key initiatives that position North Carolina to be more competitive in the race for jobs and economic prosperity for all North Carolinians.”
Ebert added, “As a result of significant legislation passed last year, businesses of all sizes that already employ millions of North Carolinians can look to expand and grow, spurring further business investments and job creation. However, there is work still to be done, and we know that we can count on a continued commitment to enhancing our state’s business climate from strong, jobs-minded legislators such as those endorsed by the Chamber PAC.”
Dana Cope, executive director of the State Employees Association of North Carolina, said his organization made bipartisan endorsements in 66 races for the General Assembly including McLaurin’s campaign in N.C. Senate District 25.
“Never in my tenure at SEANC have our members endorsed such a dynamic and extensively bipartisan group of legislative candidates,” said Cope.
McLaurin said, “I am very pleased to have the broad based support from the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the State Employees Association of North Carolina. I have pledged to work across party lines to focus on results in Raleigh — not rhetoric. We have too many serious issues facing our state for us not to roll up our sleeves and get to work for the people of North Carolina.”
McLaurin said his 32 years of experience in working in a small business and his record of leadership as mayor of Rockingham helped him land the prestigious endorsements.
McLaurin’s opponent is Republican Gene McIntyre of New London and he has served as a teacher, coach and assistant principal in Stanly County and is serving his fourth term as a county commissioner for Stanly County.
