HOPE MILLS — Armando Garcia scored with approximately 13 minutes left in the contest to lift the Richmond Senior boys soccer team to a 3-2 victory over South View Wednesday night.
The Raiders (3-0) led 2-0 at halftime before the Tigers stormed back to tie the game.
“It was a nice comeback, but we picked up four yellow cards,” Richmond coach Bennie Howard said. “Their physical game really got into our heads.
“We played with some heart and battled back after they tied the game. It’s not the way I wanted to win, but we are still undefeated and that’s the bottom line.”
Richmond will return to action 6:30 p.m. Saturday against Union Pines at the Ninth Grade Academy. The Raiders and the Vikings were scheduled to battle on Monday, but a scheduling conflict prompted the teams to move the contest to Saturday. Richmond was originally slated to play Whiteville, but the Wolfpack pulled out of the game.
In the junior varsity contest, Rogelio Reyes and Carlos Sedano each had a goal to lead Richmond to a 2-0 victory over South View. Bryce Dexion recorded an assist on Reyes’ tally.
The win improves the Raiders to 2-0 on the season. Richmond will battle Union Pines at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Ninth Grade Academy.
JV football to play at Raider Stadium
ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior junior varsity football game with Lee County will be played at its original time of 7 p.m. today at Raider Stadium.
School officials had tentatively moved the first two home games of the season to the practice fields because of construction of the track at the stadium.
