The Hamlet City Council voted to appoint William Pate to serve on the Hamlet Historic Depot and Museum Board at the council meeting on Tuesday night.
“We appreciate Mr. Pate applying to serve as a volunteer for the board,” said Hamlet Mayor Jeff Smart.
Council members also voted to approve five tax releases:
• Lillian Lagrone was released from $299.79, per the county’s request. She should have received a senior citizen exception in that amount.
• James S. House, Sr. was released from $24.29, per the county’s request.
• Hamlet Sign Shop was released from $35.94, per the county’s request. The business closed and was double-listed for 2012.
• Carolyn Herndon was released from $12.96, per the county’s request regarding a surrendered vehicle tag.
• David T. Lancaster was released from $56.36, per the county’s request regarding a surrendered vehicle tag.
Gail Strickland, who works for the city’s code enforcement office, announced that the 200 East Hamlet Avenue demolition would start next week.
Marchell Adams-David, the city manager, announced that city offices would be closed on Monday, Sept. 3, for Labor Day. Trash pickup scheduled for that day will be rescheduled for the next day.
