Dear Editor,

The majority of us have been Democrats for a long time and we were proud of it. But today many of us feel that the party has left us behind. After all, how many of us believe in same sex marriage? Also, most of us don’t believe in abortion and especially forcing those who don’t believe in it to join in paying for it. Another thing, who among us believes that big government is the big answer? It seems that every day we hear of fraud and corruption in our big government. Let us have less government and less corruption. We can’t afford to tax enough to pay for this big government, so we have big deficit.

Well neighbor, I’m having a hard time justifying the lending of my support to the party any longer, by continuing to be a member. After all, if none of us drop out of the party, the leadership feels they can take it wherever they want; because at the end of the day, they still have as many members as before.

We’ve got to do something! Maybe it’s decision time! If the leadership can make the decision to change what the party stands for, regardless of the views of the majority of the members; then maybe the members need to make a decision to get out. That’s the best way to let the party know you’re not in agreement with its new platform.

Darrell I admire you for your insight and willingness to share what you feel. For most of my adult life I was not registered with a party. I chose to vote for the man, not the party. I never knew what party my parents were affiliated with but I suspect it was Democratic. The only thing I ever heard them discuss was our local government.

I joined the Air Force and went to Vietnam in 1969. It was while I was in Vietnam I became painfully aware of the consequences of letting the politicians take charge. A lot of good people died and the war we were winning was lost because of politics. I became a victim of politics when I returned home to a country turned upside down.

I was stationed in Goldsboro and one night I watched Jessie Helms give a commentary on WRAL. I liked what he said and watched him every night. Over the years I still did not commit to one party and continued to vote for the man. I saw good people in both parties and still do. Unfortunately politics has a way of changing people as they pander for votes and are corrupted by donations by people seeking political favors.

Twenty years ago I retired from the Air Force. I had been to 8 countries and lived abroad for 5 years. I gained perspective during those years as I saw how other countries are different. It was during that time I gained a healthy respect for our system of government and the 2 party system.

I was so proud of our founding fathers and the fact our nation was formed "Under God". Yes I am a Christian and I know that God is my strength.

Now I see this awful mess we are in and it makes me sad to think my children and their children are faced with so much uncertainty and misery. Our politicians have no moral compass and it has been made clear by their decisions.

I refuse to judge a man by his party but it saddens me at how many people I love who have no idea what is happening to our country. How can they possibly not know what has happened to us during the Obama regime and what will certainly happen if he is unleashed for another term?

We must reverse the direction we are headed in. We must stop this rampant spending, create jobs and insist people take the jobs instead of depending on a socialist government.

We could do so much with our tax dollars if we reinvest the money in small business, education and community projects. There are roads and bridges that need to be repaired and neighborhoods to be cleaned up. People need to earn what the receive so they will value what they have and aspire to do more.

It is time to "Take Back America"! Restore her to the country our founders meant her to be. We need term limits on our legislators and we need to hold them accountable for their actions.

I have been a registered Republican since Regan ran for his second term. I have letters of appreciation signed by 4 presidents including Republicans and Democrats. I'm proud to have served this country no matter what the politicians made us do.

Now I feel it is time to stop attacking each other and pray for our country and her leaders. Pray for our families and friends. Please do not lose the fact we are all "Americans" first. We all know if anyone from the outside threatens us we will respond like fire ants in a stepped on mound.

The only way America will fall is if we do it from the inside out.

Mr. Day, you are not a Democrat but only a Republican masquerading as a Democrat. The views you hold are Republican ideas not Democratic values.

You are just like the neo-cons wanting to cut big government. Do you suggest that we should cut the police, firemen, teachers, the military or garbage service. Please explain what you want to cut, is it the EPA or FEMA. Do want clean air and water or do you want big corpations to decide if our water is drinkable, or the air is clean?

The decision is an easy one for you to make, you are already a Republican, so go join the party.

Typical far left response. Any time we talk about cutting the size of government you make it about police, fire fighters and teachers. I haven't heard anyone talk about cutting them. It's about all the waste in our social programs. All of the useless replication in our current federal government and the needless bureaucracy that we are paying for. Most people in the US identify themselves as fiscally conservative and yet somehow we elect the most liberal president in our history. The problem we have is an uninformed electorate that gets all of their political information in 30 second bites from the negative ads on TV. Most people have never read a single thing that truly says what any candidate or party actually stands for. It just sad that we've come to this. We have truly been "dumbed down" as a nation.

I was Democrat but the party left me with all my beliefs in small government, morals and good comon sense.

George Washington once declared that America’s prosperity and protection were dependent upon its adherence to God. Oour political leaders at the beginning of this nation gathered at St. Paul’s Chapel to commit the nation’s future to God’s purposes.

Psalm tells us that "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" Are we still committed to his purposes?

I was also a Democrat before it became the party of atheist and freeloaders.
