Come out and watch the Rockingham Housing Authority’s step team perform.
The Rockingham Housing Authority will be hosting its second annual Back to School B.A.S.H. on Friday at Falling Creek Recreational Park located at 415 Hood St., Rockingham. The event will feature a 15-member step team performance, among other family fun.
B.A.S.H stands for Believe, Achieve, Succeed and Higher Education, which the Housing Authority said is its desire for each child throughout the community.
“We are hoping to surpass last year’s event by assisting more than 104 families that previously attended,” said Chereka Belton-Odom. “The success was not ours alone; it was due to the donations received and the community agencies that attended to ensure the children of ours and surrounding communities have a great start to a new school year.”
The event will provide school supplies, family fun, community organization information booths and more.
This year, the Friendly Neighborhood Dental Van will be providing dental services to those that qualify for ages 2 and older. Some of the organizations that plan to attend include First Health Mobile Services (diabetes screening), Richmond Community College, Compassionate Care, Alcohol & Drug Services, Division of Workforce Solutions, Richmond County Health Department (Girls Can!), Girl Scouts, and Richmond County 4-H Youth Development.
Belton-Odom said the screening is a new feature of the event this year.
“We would like to thank all of these organizations as well as those that donated funding such as Covenant Enterprise, Witherspoon Heating and Air, John Grossi, CPA, Quick Copy, Bobby Singletary, Sandhills Office Supply, Community One Bank, McNeill Funeral Home, Murphy Electric Supply, and Sandhills Regional Medical Center,” said Belton-Odom.
