The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a flash flood warning for Richmond County until 8:15 p.m.

At 5:19 p.m., the weather service Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms with very heavy rain producing flooding over east central Richmond County. Doppler radar estimated that 3 inches of rain has fallen over eastern Richmond County.

Runoff from this heavy rainfall will cause minor flooding to occur, especially along small streams in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage. Some locations that could experience flooding include Hoffman.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely, the weather service advises. Turn around — do not drown.
