Ayden, NC – Geraldine Branch Page “Poogie”, 86 years old
Geraldine Branch Page peacefully departed her earthly home for her much awaited Godly and eternal home on Monday, July 30, 2012 surrounded by her family. “Poogie” (a nickname given by her Father) faithfully sang old time hymns during her last few years - this devotion was always enjoyed by friends, family and everyone around her.
Geraldine was born on July 6, 1926 and raised in Pitt County on a family farm along with eight brothers and sisters. She attended Ayden Grifton Schools and at 18 moved with her younger sister (Dot) to Rockingham, NC where she entered Hamlet Hospital School of Nursing in 1944 earning a Registered Nursing degree, then attended Harbarger Business College in Raleigh earning a Business-Accounting degree.
“Poogie” met her love of 53 years, Talmadge, while she attended nursing school and he was attending Duke University. They were married on December 31,1950 and established their home in Rockingham where the family attended the First Methodist Church.
A consummate home-maker in her early married years Geraldine was a wonderful cook and an avid seamstress. As an RN, she worked in the emergency department and operating room as head nurse at Richmond County Memorial Hospital. The family chose to return to Pitt County in 1974 where she continued to serve in healthcare at Greenville Villa Nursing Home and subsequently worked with Home Health Services of Eastern NC until her retirement.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents William Jasper Branch, Sr. and Ida Lucretia Cannon Branch, both of Ayden; Husband, Talmadge Dawson Page, Sr. (2002) as well as her first-born child, Denise Faye Page (1953). She held long and loving memories of her Sister, Dorothy “Dot” Lorraine Branch Davis; Brothers, James Ray Branch, Linwood Noah Branch, Major Kenneth Branch, William Jasper “Jack” Branch, Jr., John David “JD” Branch, along with Brother-in-laws: Cecil Dan Coltrain, Lee Arnold Hooks, Ben Alfred Davis and Jackie O’Neal Page and Sister-in-law: Margaret Baker Branch
She is survived by Sisters, Eleanor Branch Hooks of Greenville, NC and Mary Ida Branch Coltrain of Ayden, NC; Brother-in-law, John Thomas Page, Jr. and wife Eleanor of Rockingham NC; Sister-in-laws, Pricilla Sue Sutton Branch Turnage of Carolina Beach, NC and Cena Garris Branch Smith of Greenville; Daughter, Debra Page Reynolds and husband John of Norwood, NC; Son, Talmadge “Dawson” Page, Jr. and wife Tina of the home in Ayden, NC; Grandchildren, John Michael Page and wife Felicia, Joshua Herman Page, Morgan Elizabeth Page, and Ashley Carol Reynolds as well as several dear cousins, nieces and nephews.
Geraldine’s Memorial Service / Life Celebration will be officiated by Reverend David M. Langley at Winterville Free Will Baptist Church on August 4, 2012 at 7:00 pm with family visitation 1 hour prior in the WFWB Church Narthex. Family and friends should feel free to visit at other times the home at 1062 Hines Drive Extension in Ayden.
Watson-King Funeral Home will assist the family in interment services and a separate graveside service will be held on August 11, 2012 at Eastside Cemetery in Rockingham, NC at 11:00 am.
