As the days of summer near an end, so do the monthly Plaza Jams that are a hallmark of warm weather in Richmond County.

After this Thursday’s event, there will be only two more Plaza Jams this year.

“So bring something comfortable to sit on, and join us for this fun, free event before it’s too late,” said Kim Williams, Rockingham events coordinator.

The main event of this Thursday evening will be a performance by The Magnificents Band.

The band covers everything from beach music hits to top forty tunes, and is known for interacting with audience members to provide fun, memorable experiences for all.

There’s plenty of room to dance the night away, or just kick back and enjoy the music under the stars while the warm nights are still around.

“I don’t dance, but I like to go out and hear the music and talk to people,” said Margarette Eaves, of Hamlet. “I take my grandkids out there and they have a good time.”

Snow cones, barbecue and hot dog sales are a big hit with kids and adults alike, and most who attend agree that it’s a good time for the whole family.

Thursday Plaza Jam concerts are held on the 1st Thursday of each month, May through October, and are free. The concerts start at 6:30 p.m., and are held on Cole Plaza next to City Hall, at 514 Rockingham Road. The next Plaza Jam is scheduled for Sept. 6.
