Walter “Ike” Smith, 74, of 867 Boyd Lake Road, Hamlet, died, Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at his residence.

He was born March 9, 1938 in Richmond County, son of Jerry M. Smith and Sally Mae Smith Smith.

He worked for 30 yrs. until his retirement, for NC Forestry Service. He attended Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and Highland Pines Free Will Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Harrington Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 pm

The Funeral will be Friday, August 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Sonny Hall and Rev. Don Kivett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Maulden Smith; brothers, Lewis and Everette Smith; and sister, Georgia Winks.

Mr. Smith is survived by his sons, Walter Charles Smith (Nancy) of Hamlet and David “Pop” Smith (Sandy) of Rockingham ; daughters, Delores Sharpe (Mike) of Hamlet, Teresa Hancock (Terry Tucker) of Asheboro and Michelle Vance (Ricky) of Hamlet; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; Uncle Sime; and brother & sister-in-law, Linda &Doug Eaton.

Harrington Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Smith Family.
