Billy Lynn Thompson, 63, of Hamlet, died July 18, 2012, at V.A. Hospital in Fayetteville.
A funeral will be held Wednesday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at Ellerbe Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Daryl Carter, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson Funeral Home of Hamlet.
Mr. Thompson was a veteran in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, a Silver Star, the National Defense Service medal, a Vietnam Service medal, a Vietnam Campaign medal, an Army Commendation medal and a Good Conduct medal.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Thompson of the home; mother, Cora Thompson of Laurel Hill; two daughters, Tora H. Champaign of Fayetteville and Sami Willingham of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers Ronnie Thompson of Laurinburg, Malcolm Thompson of Killen, Texas, Terry Thompson, Derry Thompson and Eddie Thompson, all of Laurel Hill, Bobby Thompson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Freddie Thompson of Laurinburg and William Avery Jones of Port Chester, N.Y.; sisters Iwana Johnson and Oglatha Coleman of Laurel Hill and Yolanda Hilton of Winston Salem.
Nelson Funeral Service of Hamlet is assisting the family.
