Ruth Stevenson Higgins, 85, of Hamlet, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Richmond Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on the 20th of July, 2012. She was born October 7, 1926 a daughter of the late, C.V. and Lucille Johnson Stevenson. Mrs. Higgins was the manager of Covington Nursing Home for many years until her retirement.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 23, 2012 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham with Rev. Russell Edwards officiating. Burial followed in Eastside Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

She is survived by a son, Jon Fox and his wife, Susan of Sarasota, FL; sisters, Marian S. Greeno of Boone, NC, Peggy Pollock and husband, James of Carlsbad, CA, and Pat Cave and her husband, Larry of Stevensville, MD; a brother, C.V. Stevenson of Okeechobee, FL; grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexandra Fox; and her closest and dearest friend, Jackie Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Edith F. Reiner and Janice Pospicil.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
