The Second Baptist Church Day School at 518 Fourth St. in Hamlet announced Friday that T. K. Thrower has become the school’s new principal.
Thrower has a combined 32 years in public education, 16 years as a teacher and 16 years as an administrator. He is a member of The First Assembly of God Church in Rockingham, where he has served as a deacon and elder.
As a strong Christian, Thrower said that he always employed those principles in his public school career. He is happy to be involved in a Christian school where he feels complete freedom to pray and share his faith.
Thrower said, “I believe each child is blessed by God with specific gifts and talents. It is the responsibility of parents and educators to help each child unwrap these gifts and talents so they might become productive members of our society. I do believe each child has a hope and future and the school has the responsibility to provide a Biblical environment to promote this future.”
Established in 1998 as a preschool program, Second Baptist Church Day School has since grown to a school offering an education platform that includes a preschool with five classes and kindergarten through fifth grade.
In 2010, the campus expanded to include a new educational building housing eight classrooms, a gymnasium and media center. The school features a strong phonics-based reading program and small classes.
