Billy “Koon” Livingston Herndon, age 72 of Hamlet passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012 at Sandhills Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. J.W. Williams and Rev. Woody Byrd. Burial will follow at Peele’s Chapel Cemetery.
Billy was born October 15, 1939 in Marlboro County, South Carolina, son of the late Everette Livingston Herndon and Anne Wallace Herndon. He was a Veteran that served proudly with the United States Navy. He worked as the Produce Manager with Harris Teeter retiring after many years of dedicated service. He was a longtime faithful member of the Peele’s Chapel Wesleyan Church. Billy never met a stranger and always took the time to talk with others. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Johnson Herndon of their home; sons, Rodney E. Herndon of Hamlet, James W. Webster of Cherryville; his daughter, Lisa A. Potter of Hamlet; sisters, Shirley H. Locklear of Laurinburg, Peggy Smith of Hesperia, CA; Faye Warren and husband Bill of Greer, SC; seven grandchildren, Samantha Jo Montgomery, Justin Everette Herndon, Susie Rachelle Vacheresse, Ashley Clark, Austin Webster, Dylan Webster, Jacob Webster; a great grandson, Benjamin Carter Hailey; many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
The family request that memorial gifts be made in memory of Mr. Herndon to Peele’s Chapel Wesleyan Church, 20781 McEachin Road, Laurel Hill, NC 28351.
