The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a corn hole tournament at the Rockingham Speedway this summer, and is inviting all interested parties to sign up now.

“Brian Baucom mentioned to me that he had participated in a corn hole tournament in Laurinburg, and it might be something we should look at doing in Richmond County,” said Chamber Director Jody Williamson. “I know a lot of locals enjoy playing, it’s become a really popular sport.”

The tournament will be held August 4, in the infield area of the speedway. Registration starts at 10 a.m., and the games start at 11 a.m.

Entry fees are $40 per team of two and the cutoff is 64 teams, so the Chamber is encouraging folks to register now. The registration deadline is July 31.

The first place team will walk away with $300, second place will win $200, third place wins $100, fourth place wins $60 and fifth place will win $30. The tournament is double elimination.

“Any businesses interested in sponsoring can contact the Chamber,” said Emily Tucker, chamber president.

Players are invited to bring their families, and a cash bar and grill will be available.

“We’ll also set up a kids’ area with a bounce house and corn hole games for children to play,” said Tucker.

People are encouraged to bring tent canopies for shade, but if it rains the games will be held in the garage. Lawn chairs or beach towels are also a good idea.

“There will also be a raffle for a set of corn hole boards emblazoned with The Rock logo,” Tucker said.

Contestants do not need to be Chamber members to participate in the event.

“We’re hoping to reach out past our members, and connect with more of the community,” said Williamson.

To register, visit the chamber website at www.richmondcountychamber.com or call 910-895-9058.
