RICHMOND COUNTY ANIMAL ADVOCATES will be hosting our first annual Mutt Strut Pet Festival at Hinson Lake on May 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be a $10 entry fee to walk your pet. There will be food vendors, pet related items and a $15 microchip clinic. All proceeds will go to RCAA to help save more animals in our county. MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE will be held Sunday, May 19th at 4 p.m., at Exway Baptist Church, 2119 County Line Road, Mt. Gilead, to honor and thank those who have defended our nation and the freedoms that we enjoy. This will be an outdoor event if weather permits. Bring your lawn chairs.

RICHMOND COUNTY SCAM JAM is a free event that will be held at Richmond Community College, Cole Auditorium, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. Learn how to protect yourself, your assets and your personal information from various scams. Presentations by AARP, Attorney General’s Office, N.C. Senior Medicare Patrol Program, N.C. Secretary of State’s Office and your local Sheriff’s’s office. A shred truck will also be on-site to safely dispose of your personal information. HOT DOG SALE will be held at the Richmond Plaza Shopping Center (J.C. Penney) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, May 24. The cost will be $5 per plate. Plate includes two hot dogs with all the trimmings, bag of chips and drink. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the United Way of Richmond County.
