GREENSBORO — Henry Harding Latham, 95, died Monday, February 9, 2009 at Moses Cone Hospital. A memorial service will be held at Friends Home West at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 13, 2009. Rev. Jim Dollar and Rev. George Stevens will officiate. He will be interred at New Garden Cemetery.

A native of Washington, NC, he was the son of Hannis Taylor Latham and Sudie Harding Latham. He graduated from NC State University and pursued advanced polymer studies at the School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. While at NC State he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean campaign and retired as a Lt. Col. from the US Army Chemical Corp.

For many years he worked as an executive in chemical manufacturing and sales. He retired as President of Chemical Counsel Associates. He was past chairman of the Piedmont section of AATCC and a national counselor of AATCC.

He was a member and former deacon of Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America and the Greensboro Kiwanis Club. He was a former member of Starmount Forest Country Club and the Tar Heel State Seniors Golf Association.

He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Hannis Taylor Latham, Jr. and Thomas Jordan Latham. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Thompson Latham of the home and daughters Sue Latham Stevenson and husband Dr. John S. Stevenson of Rockingham, NC and Janet Latham Howard and husband Robert E. Howard, Sr. of Raleigh. Surviving grandchildren are Laura S. Daskal and husband Steve of Rockingham, James Latham Stevenson and wife Kelly of Denver, Co., Robert E. Howard, Jr. and wife Mandy of Raleigh, and Margaret Howard Stevens and husband The Reverend George Stevens. Surviving great grandchildren are Maggie Howard, Ben Howard, and Henry Harding Stevens. He is also survived by two special nieces, Suzanne Newton and Patsy Balance.
