Dear Editor,
I have been thinking about writing about this for a long time, but now with the 100-degree plus temperatures we are having, I cannot hold back any longer.
Every day as I go to work I ride by several houses only to see their dogs tied to dinky little houses with short chains. These poor animals are in the same situation whether it is 105 degrees or 5 degrees.
I have contacted the Humane Society about this in which I was told that as long as they have food, water or shelter that nothing could be done. I am sure they see a lot worse cases than I am speaking of. It just angers me.
I thought one time the city of Rockingham was looking into a tethering ordinance.
Maybe the owners of these poor animals will read this letter and get a guilty conscious.
One of the dogs that I am writing about must have gotten pregnant while she was chained because there was a litter of puppies.
Don’t know what happened to them. Just wishing something could be done.
