The National Weather Service of Raleigh has issued a heat advisory which will remain in effect until 9 p.m. tonight.
Keep an eye on the elderly, children, pets and livestock as the temperature is forecasted to climb into the triple-digits.
“A prolonged period of unseasonably hot weather continues,” wrote the NWS in their head advisory. “The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible, especially given the number of consecutive days of the heat.
“Drink plenty of water, stay in an air conditioned room, stay out of the sunshine and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave pets and children in vehicles. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency — call 911. Residents of central North Carolina are urged to review heat safety precautions online at http://www.NWS.NOAA.Gov/os/heat.”
According to the NWS, the heat index of 107 will be highest around the South Carolina border, so commuters should be aware of the excessive heat which will peak between the hours of 2 and 6 p.m.
As we move towards evening, the chance of thunderstorms in the area will increase to 80 percent. This pattern is forecasted to continue throughout the week.
