The United Way of Richmond County is accepting applications from organizations that would like to become partnering agencies.

There are typically 16 to 18 partnering agencies per year, and current agencies are required to re-apply. United Way works to raise funds for its partnering agencies through fundraisers and donations. An allocation committee helps determine fund distribution among the agencies.

“Agencies interested in becoming a partner need to submit a letter of intent to the United Way by noon on July 16,” said Michelle Parrish, United Way of Richmond County Executive Director.

Eligible applicants:

• Provide health and human services program;

• Provide services in Richmond County;

• Are non-profit 501 (c) 3 or IRS equivalent;

• Applications for funding programs of schools and governmental organizations will be considered, as long as they are specific and not covered by tax funds.

Currently, Sandhills Children’s Center, Cordova School, Richmond County 4H Clubs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Leak Street Alumni, Back Pack Pals, Richmond County Aging Services, Samaritan Colony, Richmond County Literacy Council, Richmond Christian Counseling, Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills, American Red Cross, New Horizon’s Life and Family Services, Salvation Army and Rockingham Rescue Squad are partnering with United Way.

“Being a United Way partner has been wonderful,” said Melanie Carnes, director of the Sandhills Children’s Center in Rockingham. “Michelle Parrish is very supportive of the agencies, and goes out of her way to raise awareness and funds. We will apply again this year, and hope to remain a United Way partner.”

“United Way does a great job raising funds,” said Crystal McLendon, executive director of New Horizons. “The support we receive from there enables us to provide shelter to individuals in crisis situations.”

The United Way of Richmond County identified several key funding priorities for 2013. The group is seeking out partnering agencies with a focus on: strengthening and supporting families; crisis services; empowering children and youth to succeed; and promoting health and wellness.

To obtain complete details on how to apply for a 2013 partnership with United Way, contact the United Way office at 910-997-2173 or email Parrish at michelleparrish@bellsouth.net.

The 2013 campaign kickoff is scheduled for Sept. 12 at 7:30 a.m. at the Cole Auditorium. Anyone interested in participating can contact the United Way office.
