Fifty-four graduates of Richmond Community College’s College and Career Readiness program marched in cap and gown Thursday night across the Cole Auditorium stage to receive their General Educational Development (GED) diplomas. Another seven graduates earned Adult High School diplomas. Over the past year, RCC awarded 259 GED diplomas and eight Adult High School diplomas to graduates in a five-county area.

RCC President Dale McInnis welcomed the audience, and congratulated the graduates and their families on the work that made the night so special.

RCC Workforce and Economic Development Vice President Steve Smith introduced guest speakers Richard Martin of Hamlet and Tiffany Elliott of Laurinburg. Both earned their GEDs within the past year and are enrolled at RCC.

Several students received scholarships to RCC this fall.

Rotarians Robert Voorhees and Rick Bacon presented the Rockingham Rotary Scholarship to Christian Gage Croke of Rockingham, who earned her Adult High School diploma with high honors.

College and Career Readiness Director Sherry Byrd presented the Basic Skills Race for Literacy Scholarship to Jamie Louise Herring of Rockingham, who earned her GED diploma with commendation.

RCC Trustee Walter Stancil Sr. presented the Emma M. Stancil & Captain Walter R. Stancil, Jr. Memorial Scholarship to Richard Dwayne Martin of Hamlet, who earned his GED diploma with commendation.

Workforce and Economic Development Vice President Steve Smith presented the Barbara S. Conder Basic Skills Scholarship to Tiffany Lynn Elvis of Hamlet, who earned her GED diploma.

Civitan and RCC Trustee J.C. Lamm presented the Rockingham Civitan Club Scholarship to Kenneth Ray Mabe of Rockingham, who completed his GED.

RCC Trustees Chairman Hugh Lee presented the RCC Trustees Basic Skills Scholarship to Taylor Johnson of Gibson, who earned her GED diploma with high honors.

Rotarian Bill Owens presented the Laurinburg Rotary Scholarship to Cayla Mumford of Laurel Hill, who earned her GED diploma with honors.

The diplomas were presented by Dale McInnis, Hugh Lee, Steve Smith and Sherry Byrd. Jeff Maples with the Richmond County School System and Cindy Goodman with the Scotland County School System assisted McInnis and Lee in presenting the Adult High School Diplomas. Smith conferred the degrees.

Adult High School graduates attending the ceremony from Richmond County were Courtney Dawn West of Hamlet; and Christian Gage Croke and Mary Katherine Lowe of Rockingham.

Adult High School graduates attending the ceremony from Scotland County were Dymon K. Christion, Brittany Yvette McRae, Patrice Lentisha McDougald, and Brandon Russell of Laurinburg.

GED graduates attending the ceremony from Richmond County were Steve Randall Butler Jr. of Cordova; Tiffany Nicole Davis of Ellerbe; Donald Ray Butler, Holly Cary, Brandy Covington, Kaitlynn Cowen, Ashley Hancock, William Cody Huneycutt, William Anthony Kemp, Kelly J. Kohl, Da’Shay Mata’ya Lockhart, Kelly Elese Lynch, Richard Dwayne Martin, William McDonald, Jacob Chandler Payne, Adrian Pore, Kayla Strickland and Stephanie Tullis of Hamlet; Dustin K. Bittle, Courtney Cruz Cassidy, Bobbie Cumberland, Tiffany Lynn Elvis, Christopher David Grant, Jamie Louise Herring, Amber Nicole Hogan, Carolyn Kane, Joseph Ethan Lemons, Bryana Lowery, Kenneth Ray Mabe, Dakota McCormick, Kenneth Murphy, Joshua C. Owens, J.C. Richardson, Taylor Shepard, Sherry Williams, and William Dalton Williams of Rockingham.

GED graduates attending the ceremony from Scotland County were Taylor Johnson of Gibson; Dwayne M. Bennett Jr., Jamie Lee Hunt, Martha Mae Jackson, Damion B. Locklear, and Cayla Mumford of Laurel Hill; Jesse A. Flowers Jr., Jere M. Glenn, Bridget Hudson, Stephanie Lynn Todd, and Troyniqua Williams of Laurinburg; and Toni D. Harris and Alex Peele of Wagram.

GED graduates from surrounding counties were Regina M. Leviner and Jody Quick of Bennettsville; Natasha Nicole Locklear of Fayetteville; Tabitha Danielle Caulder of Lumberton; and Davey M. Stokes of Raeford.
