ROCKINGHAM — Hunter Parks hopes her confidence will carry over to next spring.
The rising junior was Richmond Senior’s lone participant in this week’s Powerade State Games softball competition. Parks helped the Region 4 team to a sixth-place finish.
“I did pretty good,” Parks said. “We played four games and I pitched in three of the four. I pitched three innings in the first, four in the second and three in the last game.
“My first game I did really good, the second game I didn’t do as good as the first one. The third game, I wasn’t horrible.”
The squad tied for first in its bracket with Regions 6 and 7 with a 2-1 round-robin record. After using the tiebreaker of fewest runs allowed during the tournament, Region 4 was third. Region 4 allowed 13 runs in its three round-robin games, while Region 7 surrendered 10 and Region 6 also limited the opposition to 10.
The team, which was coached by Scotland’s Patrick Williams, was edged in its opener 7-6 by Region 7, which would advance to the gold medal contest. In the second game, Region 4 knocked off Region 6 7-5. In the round-robin finale, the squad slipped past Region 1 2-1. In the fifth-place contest, Region 2 escaped with a 5-2 victory.
“All the girls on the team are now my friends,” Parks said. “When I play them in school, I know now them. Even Coach Patrick was pretty cool.”
