An Ellerbe Town Council member has stepped down from his elected post.
On June 4, during the Ellerbe Town Board meeting, Mayor Olivia Webb read a letter of resignation from Jim Lane, who was voted in seven months ago after a recount was held between Lane and Mayor Pro-Tem Archie Robinson who was nominated with no plans to run in the regular municipal election.
Lane’s letter said, “This letter will serve as my resignation letter for town councilman effective immediately. This is due to the fact that I am no longer a business owner or resident of Ellerbe.”
When contacted by telephone on Thursday to offer further comment about his resignation, Lane declined to do so.
According to the meeting minutes, the commissioners approved a motion to accept the letter.
The board then appointed Archie Robinson to Lane’s unexpired term. According to Webb, Robinson will serve the remainder of Lane’s unexpired four-year term.
“My job is to keep us moving forward,” said Webb. “There is a lot of work to be done. I wish Mr. Lane the best and I look forward to working with Mr. Robinson.”
