A Charlotte woman was arrested in Hamlet on Monday after allegedly throwing a pot of scalding grease on her neighbors in the Uptown area.
According to a report by Elisabeth Arriero of the Charlotte Observer, police say Regina Terry, 33, threw a pot of hot grease on her neighbors during an argument outside their apartments at 1511 Polk St., just north of uptown Charlotte.
The article said that “two adults and four children – ages 10, 8, 6 and 22 months – were taken to the Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill. Another child was treated at Levine Children’s Hospital, and an eighth victim was treated at the scene.”
The Observer identified victims as sisters Latarra and Nadi Mclean, their children and their mother, Macy Mclean.
Nearby residents on Polk Street said that the neighbors had a history of arguing with one another, the article reported, and that Terry left shortly afterward when an unidentified man came to pick her and her son up in a silver car.
On Monday, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said they were contacted about the woman possibly staying at a residence in Hamlet.
“We received a call from a confidential informant that wanted to know if we were aware of the Charlotte incident where seven people were injured with scalding grease,” said Chief Deputy Mark Gulledge. “(The informant) stated that the suspect was located at 112 Ware Street in Hamlet. Deputies went to that residence and located her without incident.”
Terry is being charged with six counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, one count of assault with a deadly weapon and seven counts of maiming without malice, police said.
Chief Deputy Gulledge said Terry also had two outstanding warrants in Richmond County, one for failure to appear - simple affray and another for communicating threats.
He added that reports showed she is originally from Richmond County.
Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have transported Terry back to Mecklenburg County to face the assault charges.
