The Hamlet Depot and Museums and Operation Lifesaver are partnering up for the inaugural “Stay Back From the Tracks!” Coloring Contest for Kids.

Miranda Chavis, Museum Manager of the Hamlet Depot and Museums, said the goal of the contest is to encourage train safety and awareness in young rail fans.

Children may stop by the Visitors Center, located at 12 Main St., Hamlet, during the weekday, or by the Depot on weekends, to pick up an “Operation Lifesaver” coloring book.

They are then asked to color their favorite train safety tip and return it to the Visitors Center. Each child with a submission will be entered into a drawing for a prize. Note: only one submission per child will be given for the drawing, regardless of how many colorings are submitted.

The last day for submissions is July 31 and the drawing will take place Aug. 1.

“As you can imagine, we are very excited about this contest,” Chavis said, “and we cannot wait to see all of the beautifully colored Operation Lifesaver images.”

The contest is open for children up to 13 years old. For more information, contact 910-417-7791.
