CorTek, Inc., the Southeast’s largest specialized packaging company, has pledged a $30,000 gift to the comprehensive capital campaign for Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham. The new museum, which officially began construction at a community Blast Off event on March 23, will offer creative learning-through-play experiences for children and their caregivers.

“We are extremely happy to be able to give our support to Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham and believe it will give all the kids in our community as well as surrounding communities a place to be inspired and excited,” said Lynwood Dunn, president of CorTek, Inc. “I know this facility is going to add much to the growth and development of Richmond County. I only wish we would have had an opportunity like this when we were growing up.”

CorTek, Inc.’s gift, part of the project’s continuing capital campaign, will be designated for overall museum support. Based in Hamlet and owned by Richmond County natives Lynwood and Terri Dunn, CorTek, Inc. delivers quality packaging solutions for businesses of all sizes ranging from small to Fortune 500 and prides itself on a reputation of personal customer relationships. With products including corrugated boxes, die-cuts, corner protectors, and automotive, military and electronic packaging, the company also maintains a full assembly department with a wide range of services.

“We look forward to utilizing Lynwood’s expertise in some of our exhibition programming. He is a true inventor and exemplifies the creative processes that Discovery Place KIDS incorporates into our learning objectives,” said John Mackay, president and CEO of Discovery Place. “Lynwood and his wife Terri have built a successful Richmond County-based business through hard work and innovative practices and they fully understand the educational opportunities this museum offers the families living and working in the Sandhills region.”

“As grandparents we appreciate the extraordinary educational opportunities that Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham presents, and as lifelong area residents we are honored to support this community,” said Terri Dunn, vice president of CorTek, Inc. “It is our responsibility as business owners to be involved in a project of this magnitude that will help shape the future of this region.”

The Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham project was launched by the commitment of $6.6 million in funds from the Cole Foundation and the Richmond Community Foundation. Their visionary leadership gifts, which were facilitated by The Foundation For The Carolinas, are intended for the long-term sustainability of the museum. Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham will open in 2013 on East Washington Street in the location once occupied by the McKenzie Furniture building.
